It is a Question of Morality, and I too old?
« Thread started on: Sep 13th, 2004, 9:13pm »

Most of us can think back to when we first began soaking. I know I can. Picked up the SS-50, with its fresh, new plastic like smell. I even remember drinking from it when no one was looking! Back then in the 90's, Soakers were cool, Soakers were the thing to do during the summer, it was a past time. Because of that Soaker popularity raised, and the golden age of soaking was under way. However with recent events going on, and the turn of the new millennium, things were changing.

A lot of us had wars in 2000-2001, including me. However I was devastated when I was told we were moving to a whole new spot, I had no idea how I was to carry on the team's legacy. To this day I have no contact with them (go figure) and I do not know if they soak anymore. I have heard from a friend their soakers were destroyed somehow in someway, again I don’t know how.

I tried to make the best of it, and out of the bat I had a few kids in interest. However I soon learned my new house wasn’t the best spot to do anything like Water Wars, ill explain in a bit. So then a question of morality came up. Should I give up soaking to give into Peer pressure? What should I do? It harbored on my mind for a long time.

I searched the Internet for related help, found nothing. I tried hiding it at times, did not help. So it got worse, and worse, and worse. If I bring out a gun, someone would see me, harass me, follow me, then eventually leave or attack me physically. Because of my hobby, I was attacked on my front doorstep by a group of jerks at the other school for liking what I do. It’s a long story, and Id rather get into it. But to fight for something YOU BELIEVE IN, that is true valor at heart. (I do NOT encourage to go pick a fight)

So people found out at school, wonderful. My freshman year in high school was a total disaster. Not because of my hobby, but because the same people who mocked me for playing with "squirt guns" could not stop bothering me, and some still do today. I gulped down, and warded off all the pressure I was given. It was almost to the point where I attacked someone as well. I had a feeling that if I turned around, I wouldn't have been able to stop attacking.

Soakers were intended for younger kids, yes. But they should be able to be enjoyed by people of all ages. I don’t care whether your 5, 12, or 16, if you like something that is legal, keep doing it. In the 1960s African Americans put up with the segregation laws that were thrown at them, and look where they are today. I’m not so sure when the harassment will stop, but I am not giving them up anytime soon. My father may say to give them up, you’re driving a car soon, but I’m not going to, and I feel I should not have to. Keep your faith in Soakerdom, find some nice, wonderful people and have fun with this Hobby. The point of this Article?

1.) Fight for what you believe in. (as long as it is legal, in this case Soakers are legal depending on what you do with them)
2.) Don’t give into Peer Pressure
3.) Do what you want to do, not what someone else tells you to do.
4.) Dont take crap from anyone.

If I have any additional comments or points I forget to point out and remember, I will post them. Thank you for reading. Soak on!
